Cost-in-use measures the expense of using an additive in a defined quantity of finished product. A useful comparison should consider the actual application rate, batch size, production yield, finished units produced and any operational effects linked to the ingredient.

When comparing two products, calculate each option using its own recommended dosage rather than applying the same use level automatically. If active concentration differs, it can also be useful to calculate the cost per kilogram of active material.
